Save Money on Pregnancy

There are a lot of costs involved with being pregnant.  In fact, it can be a lot more expensive than what most people expect.  You not only need to worry about the things you have to pay for during the pregnancy, but a large part of the costs happen during the birthing process as well.  If you are pregnant, it is a good idea to know as much as possible about these fees ahead of time so that you can prepare.  If you are worried about your own ability to pay for these bills, you may want to consider getting maternity insurance.  This health insurance can pay a portion of the medical bills so that you don't lose all of your money in this endeavor.  This way, you can save up some to help with caring for the baby after giving birth.

During your pregnancy, you will spend a lot of money on various aspects of the gig.  For instance, it is a good idea to take prenatal vitamins.  These multi-vitamins are tailor made for women who are pregnant.   They not only make sure that you are healthy, but they keep your unborn baby healthy as well.  These cost money, though, and it can really add up over time. You will also be paying a lot for your doctor visits as well.  Typically, you will need to visit your doctor once each month for the bulk of your pregnancy.  Once you get closer to giving birth, this may raise in frequency to twice each month instead.  As you may already know, going to the doctor and getting tests done costs a lot of money. When you are going this often, the costs can really add up.  When you have maternity insurance, some of the cost of these doctor's visits will be covered.

Then comes the day that you give birth to your child.  This is going to be the most expensive day in the whole nine months of pregnancy.  Most people don't know how much this will cost, and then are often surprised once they get their bill after giving birth.  Be sure to learn about the prices before you ever get to this point.  Then you will be able to save up money for the occasion.  For instance, you will need to pay for things like the room you're staying in, and the work of the doctors and nurses that are helping you through it.  The longer you stay in the hospital, the more you will end up paying as well.  Also, you pay extra when you get an epidural or if you need to have a cesarean section.  All of this can really add up.  It is not uncommon to end up paying $8,000 to $10,000 in hospital fees from this one visit.

Maternity insurance does help.  Generally, they will pay for a percentage of the total costs.  For instance, if you have insurance that will pay a set percentage of 50%, and your bill is for $9,000, then the insurance company will pay $5,000.  Although that sounds like a lot, you will have to make up the remaining balance, which also equals $5,000.  Most people don't  have that kind of money lying around.  Still, having the insurance does help, so you should try to get it if you can.

Now you can see just how expensive having a baby can be.  Although it does cost a lot of money, it is very much worth it in the end.  You will have your own child that you can raise and call your own.  That will be worth the extra money.
