What to Expect After Birth?

There is a lot that you need to worry about when you are pregnant.  There are all sorts of circumstances that command your attention.  Being pregnant and giving birth isn't easy.  What you can do is learn as much about the process as you can.  You will find that there are countless books on pregnancy and giving birth.  You can easily find them in book stores and online.  What you don't often hear about is what happens after the birth.  At this point, people are just so excited for that all to be over that they are just ready to start raising their child.  There are actually a lot of things that you need to watch out for, including costs and hospital stays.

Staying at the hospital while you give birth, you will incur a lot of charges.  The longer your labor is, the more you will pay in fees.  You will also pay extra for things like the epidural, and a cesarean section if you need it.  All of these costs can really add up.  After your baby is born, you even end up paying for the baby's stay in the hospital as well.  Some babies are born with health problems that keep them in the hospital for a few extra days.  You will end up paying more for this as well.  in the end, you may end up paying $8000 to $10,000 in health bills for that day.  Most people don't realize about what they are going to pay after the baby is born.

To combat those high fees, there are ways that you can spend less money.  For instance, you might want to consider giving birth at home.  This is a great way to cut out almost all of the costs that you would incur in a hospital.  You won't have to pay for all of the nurses and doctors that are taking care of you.  You also won't have to pay for the bed you used or the medications that they give you.  Giving birth at home, while a bit more risky, is also a very comfortable and intimate way to have a baby.  You should consider this ahead of time so that you don't have to pay so much money after the baby is born.  Even with maternity insurance, these costs can be really high.  Much higher than you would expect.

You also need to be aware of what things will be like for you and your baby just after you give birth.  For instance, you likely won't get much sleep at all in these first few days.  You will likely feel very attached to the baby and won't want to leave it alone.  Some women even experience extreme bouts of depression after they have their baby.  If this happens to you, just know that this is normal.  You may want to visit a doctor if the feelings persist.

Your baby will likely have a hard time sleeping at first.  This is normal as well.  Although it is a perfectly healthy thing to do, it can hinder your own sleep, as well as the sleep of everyone else in the household as well.  Even so, over the next few months, you should be able to get a handle on the sleep habits of your baby.  Then, you will start to be able to sleep like you used to.

Now you know about the various things that come up after you give birth to your baby.  The more you know about this ahead of time, the easier it will be for you when the time comes.
